How Aptamil ensure baby formula quality and safety

Discover how Aptamil ensures baby formula quality with 1000+ checks, independent testing and strict UK standards. Built for trust from day one.

Your baby deserves the highest standards. Made with care.

We know that choosing how to feed your baby is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. All infant and follow-on formulas in the UK must meet strict nutritional regulations to ensure they are safe and suitable for babies but at Aptamil, we go further. Our Aptamil products pass quality controls that are stricter than European regulations:

Your product goes through more than 1,000 safety and quality checkpoints before it reaches you. From selecting and testing ingredients, to monitoring temperatures and processing conditions, to verifying the final product’s taste and quality - we carefully monitor and control every part of the journey.

We use a three‑stage safety test to ensure our products meet the highest standards. Each product is checked for the absence of Cereulide at three key points of the journey - the oil, base powder, and finished product - with all tests carried out in an independent accredited laboratory. This extra layer of testing helps give you more confidence in every scoop.

All our products are produced in factories that meet FSSC 22000, one of the world’s leading food‑safety certifications. These certifications are awarded only after independent experts conduct rigorous on‑site audits of our safety and manufacturing systems.

How We Test Every Batch

For all Aptamil formula milks we carry out a large number of chemical, physical and microbiological tests such as fat, protein and moisture analyses to ensure the formula meets our strict specifications.

Powdered milks are passed through a fine 2mm mesh sieve to ensure that the powder is evenly sized and perfectly clear. The powder is then packed into our specially designed tubs.

Nitrogen is used to flush out oxygen from powder tubs; this keeps the product fresh, so tubs are tested for oxygen content continuously, as well as being secured with a heat-sealed foil lid.

A sophisticated detector is used to ensure all packs maintain a consistent weight. Scoops are automatically dispensed into our powder tubs, and then all products are scanned with an X-ray machine to ensure consistent quality.

Samples are taken before and after packing and tested against our strict product standards. We also carry out a number of routine tests to ensure packaging integrity. All this before a single pack of Aptamil leaves our factory.

This means every pack meets our strict internal standards — before it even leaves our door.
