How Aptamil is made: Our commitment to high quality

Our Aptamil products are backed by over 50 years of Nutricia’s breast milk research. This research has enabled us to offer such a range of innovative, science-based formulas to suit varying needs. Aptamil follow-on milks are created by a team of over 500 scientists and experts, giving our formula milks a strong scientific foundation.

As a brand, Aptamil was created by Danone, a B Corp-Certified company committed to high standards of transparency, accountability, and social and environmental performance. Our researchers have constantly evolved our follow-on milk’s formulation to what Aptamil is today. Enriched with iron for normal cognitive development plus calcium and vitamin D for normal bone growth and development, Aptamil follow-on milk has a nutritional compositional that is expertly tailored to your baby’s development.

Where are Aptamil products made?

Aptamil products are made all over Europe. For example, all of our 800g are made in Ireland. Aptamil Ready to Drink liquids products are made in France.

How is Aptamil made?

Aptamil formula milks are crafted with care and expertise.

We pay as much attention to the safety and quality of our milks as we do to the researched blend of ingredients we put in them. Aptamil formula milks begin life as fresh cows’ milk. Using high quality ingredients – along with the knowledge we’ve gained from our 50 years of research – this milk is then transformed into formula.

We add a balance of nutrients tailored to different stages. For powdered formulations, we dry the enriched milk using a high-pressure spray and a mist of hot, filtered air. Powdered Aptamil milks are packed in carefully designed packaging, and a scoop is added to make sure every feed you make up has the correct amount of nutrients. Equal care is taken for our liquids range.

Final checks, including routine sampling before and after packing and nutritional analysis, ensure that every pack that leaves us meets our strict product specifications.

Important notice

Breastfeeding is best for babies. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. Follow-on milk is only for babies over 6 months, as part of a mixed diet and should not be used as a breastmilk substitute before 6 months. We advise that all formula milks including the decision to start weaning should be made on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist or other professional responsible for maternal and child care, based on baby’s individual needs.
