Frequently asked questions

The formulation has changed on Aptamil First Infant Milk powder; combining our blend of ingredients with our new unique process.

The pack design for Aptamil First Infant Milk has also changed, with a different staging colour.

For the time being, the unique process can only be applied to our powder formats. Our team of scientists and experts are currently working on making it available in liquid but at the moment our liquid bottles contain the same formulation as before. Please be assured, our latest powder formulation can be used in combination with the ready to feed formats, as per the back of pack instructions.

Please be assured, you can safely switch to our latest formulation. When changing to a new formulation, some babies may need a little time to adapt as they may experience slight changes in digestion, however this should only be minimal and temporary. Our new formulation is a patented combination of our blend of ingredients and our unique new process. Clinical studies carried out on this combination have shown that the formulation is tolerated well by babies and safe to switch to. That being said, we always recommend seeking the advice of a healthcare professional when making any changes to how babies are fed.

Yes. Wash hands and sterilise all utensils according to manufacturer's instructions. Boil 1 litre of fresh water. Leave kettle to cool for 30 minutes and no longer (allowing the water to reach 70°C once cooled from boiling). Measure the required amount of water (refer to feeding guide) into a sterilised bottle. Be careful of scalding. Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water. Using the scoop provided, level off the powder with the built in leveller. Do not press/heap the powder. Add the correct measure of powder to the water. This can be found in the feeding guide on the back of pack. Adding too many or too few scoops can be harmful. Replace lid on beaker. Shake vigorously and vertically for 10 seconds until the powder is dissolved. (Rolling the bottle or shaking in circles will not be sufficient). Cool under running tap. Check temperature of feed. Feed immediately.

Our First Infant Milk is suitable from birth to 12 months, if your baby is being combination or bottle-fed. The reason it says "birth - 6 months" is to enable parents to make clear distinctions and easily identify between products which are nutritionally complete and those which are suitable to complement a weaning diet from around 6 months. Our Follow On Milk, suitable from 6 months - 12 months, is tailored to complement a weaning diet. It contains vitamin D and calcium for normal growth and development of bone; and iron to support normal cognitive development as part of a varied and balanced weaning diet.

Important notice

Breastfeeding is best for babies. Infant formula is suitable from birth when babies are not breastfed. Follow-on milk is only for babies over 6 months, as part of a mixed diet and should not be used as a breastmilk substitute before 6 months. We advise that all formula milks including the decision to start weaning should be made on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian, pharmacist or other professional responsible for maternal and child care, based on baby’s individual needs.

Do not use if your baby has been diagnosed with a cow's milk allergy.

Use Growing Up milk as part of a varied balanced diet from 1 year.
