Breastfeeding is best for babies

Please read this important notice first

By clicking the continue button, you will be able to view information about Aptamil infant milks and other products. If you choose to proceed, you are accepting that Aptaclub is supplying this information at your individual request for information purposes. Please consult a healthcare professional to make an informed choice on feeding your baby milks & weaning onto solid foods.

Breastfeeding is best for babies and provides many benefits. It is important that, in preparation for and during breastfeeding, you eat a healthy, balanced diet. Combined breast and bottle feeding in the first weeks of life may reduce the supply of your own breast milk, and reversing the decision not to breastfeed is difficult. The social and financial implications of using an infant milk should be considered. Improper use of an infant milk or inappropriate foods or feeding methods may present a health hazard. If you use an infant milk, you should follow manufacturer’s instructions for use carefully – failure to follow the instructions may make your baby ill.

How to prepare Aptamil Anti-Reflux

How to prepare Aptamil Anti-Reflux milk from powder

Because powdered milks are not sterile, failure to follow the instructions below may make your baby ill.

Step 1

Wash hands and sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers' instructions.

Step 2

Boil 1 litre of fresh water. Leave kettle to cool for no longer than 45 mins. Measure the required amount of water into a sterilised bottle. Be careful of scalding. Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water.

Step 3

Using the scoop provided, level off the powder with the built-in leveller. Do not press or heap the powder.

Step 4

Add one scoop per 30ml (1 fl oz) of boiled and cooled water. Add the correct number of scoops to the water. Adding too many or too few scoops can be harmful.

Cap the bottle and roll the bottle upright between the palms of hands – roll it strongly for 5 seconds. The time between adding the scoops and rolling the bottle should be as short as possible.

Step 5

Shake bottle for 20 seconds and then leave to stand for 7 minutes to allow it to thicken. Check temperature of feed. Feed immediately.

Important Feeding Instructions

Aptamil Anti-Reflux is a thickened feed – please use a single-hole, fast-flow teat. For hygiene reasons, do not store made up feeds. Make up each feed as required and always discard unfinished feeds after 2 hours. If necessary, offer cooled, boiled water between feeds. This product should not be used in combination with antacids or other feed thickeners. Never add extra scoops or anything else to your baby’s feed. Never leave your baby alone whilst feeding. Always use the scoop provided. Please note the colour of the scoop in this pack may change from time to time. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate.

How to prepare powdered Anti-Reflux baby formula without tap water

It’s important to be careful with the water you use to prepare a formula feed if your normal drinking water supply is either interrupted or contaminated. Follow these Food Standards Agency guidelines to make sure you prepare the baby formula safely.

  • Use bottled water, or water from a bowser (a water tank provided by water companies)that has been brought to a rolling boil and left covered to cool for no more than half an hour.
  • If there’s no electricity or gas to boil with, bottled table, spring or mineral water can be used, and the prepared feed should then be used immediately. The use of unboiled bowser water should be avoided.
  • Some bottled water labelled as 'natural mineral water' may have high levels of sodium or sulphate. Look at the label and check that the figure for sodium (Na) is not higher than 200mg per litre and sulphate (SO or SO4) is not higher than 250mg per litre. If it is, then try to use a different water. If no other water is available, then use this water for as short a time as possible.
  • Follow the normal instructions for making up the feed.
  • Use cooled boiled water or cooled boiled bottled water for cooling the feed once it has been made up.
